Labs, Procedures and X-rays
All results will be reviewed by a physician. You will be notified of the results via telephone by a physician or member of our staff if anything needs to be done for abnormal results. Otherwise, the physician will discuss all results with you during your follow-up visit.
Medication Refills
We don’t want you to run out of medication! Please remember to call your pharmacy at least one to two days prior to running out of medication. The pharmacy will then call our office with your request.
Refills will be called in on a daily basis by 5:00 p.m. If you have contacted your pharmacy, please be assured that your prescription will be approved during regular business hours.
For your best interest, some medications, including antibiotics and narcotics, generally will not be refilled without an examination. No narcotics will be filled after hours by the on-call physician.
Mail Order Medications
If your insurance company offers a mail order Rx program and you would like to take advantage of this benefit, please contact our office at least one week prior to running out of medication. This is to ensure that we can submit a new prescription to your pharmacy for processing or to have it available for you to pick up.
Medication Lists
Please bring all medications or a list of the medications that you are currently taking. This is to include prescription and over-the-counter medications. Please bring the medication list to every appointment; this is to ensure an accurate list every visit.
Hospitalizations
Patients who require hospitalization will be admitted to Baptist Medical Center, Beaches Memorial Hospital, Specialty Hospital, or Brooks Rehab Hospital. Drs. Amer and Sean Shahla hold active admitting privileges at the listed hospitals above.
Emergencies
Should a need for a doctor arise after working hours (weekends or holidays), there will be a physician available for telephone consultation regarding urgent health conditions. You may contact the on-call physician by dialing our office number and leaving a message with our after-hours answering service. They will contact the on-call physician for you.
Referrals/Authorizations
You may be referred to a specialist for certain health problems. There is a referral process required by your insurance company, and, under many insurance plans, you may only be able to see certain specialists that participate with your insurance plan. Obtaining a referral can occasionally be a time-consuming process. Your patience will be appreciated. We will do our best to accommodate your needs. If your insurance company does require you to obtain a referral, please contact the office at least one week before your appointment. This is to ensure that we have adequate time to obtain the authorization from your insurance company. Most referrals can be requested via insurance websites but may still need to be reviewed by your insurance carrier.
Appointments
If you are a new patient, we ask that you arrive for your appointment at least 15 minutes early to fill out the necessary paperwork. Also, please make sure to bring your photo ID, insurance card, and all your medications (including over-the-counter medications). We require a copy of your photo ID/insurance card to be placed in your chart for billing purposes. These items will not be released by our office to anyone without your written consent. Should you have a change in address or insurance, please let us know.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality of your medical records is a legal requirement and the utmost importance to us. No information will be released by our office without your written consent.
